Mangalore, 16 Jul 2013: Doordarshan city bureau freelancer has reportedly strangulated his wife in their home located at Kodikal, here on Monday July 15.
The accused has confessed to the crime during the preliminary investigations by the police, as he was fed up with suspicious nature of his wife. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dharmaiah confirmed this crime.
Urwa police arrested the accused Gangadhar Padubidri, singer and city Doordarshan reporter who strangulated his dear wife Mamata in her red shawl. It’s tragic indeed Manjula who was supported by Gangadhar since her childhood found strangulated in his own hands.
Both Gangadhar and Mamata fought over trivial issues, while Gangadhar slapped Mamata on her cheek on Monday July 15 morning. Mamata collapsed on the floor, when Gangadhar strangulated her using her red shawl. He left home with wide open door and drove off in his car. He returned home at about 3.00pm on Monday and informed his brother over the phone about killing his wife.
The city police arrived at the scene and confirmed it was a murder. Mamata was orphaned in her childhood and stayed in hostel. Gangadhar brought her home and financed her studies till she graduated in law. She was employed as associate professor in SDM Law College and both Mamata and Gangadhar were married 3 years ago. Initially, both lived along with his brother-in-laws family at Lobo Road, Kodikal. Gangadhar was always busy organizing musical concert, cultural programmes and also preferred company of young girls that was a cause of marital discord. The daily fights are reported to the police and resolved amicably by the family elders. In spite of this, the ill will remained among them which was repeated on Monday morning and culminated in killing.
The dead body of Mamata was found underneath the dining table with wounds on her neck and cheeks, blood oozing. The items on the table are scattered all over. The chair rolled over the floor. The red shawl that was used to strangulate was found on the spot. Gangadhar did not acknowledge of his crime at the first instance, but confessed when the police intensified the interrogation.
Attachment to sister-in-law cause of marital discord.
Gangadhar was always in the company of his sister-in-law that caused marital discord. Both of them used to fight over the issue. He was alleged to take young girls pursuing MCJ in city colleges to faraway places promising them to get jobs in Doordarshan. A few girls among them already complained to Mamata about his character. Mamata who was fed up with his behavior felt difficult to live with him. Gangadhar’s interest in other women ruined marital bliss and culminated in killing Mumata.
