Bangalore, 3 Jul 2013: The first annual general body meeting of metro based Konkani Kulvar –was held at Dad hal, Cambridge Road, Ulsoor, here on Sunday June 30.
Konkani Kulvar spiritual director Capuchin priest Fr V J Menezes and Carmelite priest Fr Richard Menezes inaugurated the programme here on Sunday at 11.15am.
Konkani Kulvar president Dr Ajit Benedict Rayan in his presidential address focussed on the objectives of Konkani Kulvar and the achievements, particularly the membership drive could register nearly 100 members in a short period. He also thanked the sponsors, patrons and donors and all achievers in academic and music field.
Konkani Kulvar secretary Richard Lewis briefed on past achievements – Monti Fest celebration, picnic for the members and their family, Konkani Kulvar participation in platinum jubilee celebrations of Our Lady of Lourdes church, hosting of Konkani Kulwar website. He urged the youth to come forward in taking part in cultural events that are planned by Konkani Kulvar.
The promising musician Bryden Stephen Lewis who is part of Raghu Dixit Group was felicitated during the programme.
Fr V J Menezes and Fr Richard Menezes emphasized on the use of Konkani, our mother tongue, whenever and wherever possible, especially in the family and with friends. They also urged the parents to teach Konkani to their children at their early age. They also quoted examples of new Pope Francis of his simple and humble nature and urged them to follow in his footsteps.
The singers Marian D’Souza and Bernadette Lewis sang all time hit Konkani songs to the thundering applause of audiences.
Nine-year-old Anika Rodrigues mesmerized the audiences with her Bharatanatyam show.
Bryden Lewis and Fallon Miranda sang a new song from their untitled Konkani album.
Ivy Menezes conducted games and housie housie at the occasion and the prizes were distributed to the winners
at the end a sumptous lunch was provided to the members and the guests.
Konkani Kulvar treasurer Marian D’Souza presented the annual accounts.
The executive Committee member Lawrence D Souza welcomed the gathering. Richard D’Souza proposed vote of thanks. Nelson D’Souza compered the programme.
