Moodubelle, 28 July 2010: In the General Body Meeting of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of St. Lawrence Composite PU College which was attended by a large number of parents on Tuesday, 27 July 2010 at 2.30 pm in the College Hall, new office bearers of the association for the year 2010-11 were elected unanimously. The new office bearers are: Mrs. Shilpa Nayak-President, Narayana karkera-Vice Presudent, Fr. Paul Sequeira-Ex-officio Secretary, Valerian Crasta-Joint Secretary, Mrs. Pricilla odrigues-Treassurer and Ram Bhat-Auditor. Fr. Joswey Fernandes-Correspondent is the Advisor of the PTA. A committee of 12 memebrs was also elected during the meeting. The committee members are: Mrs. Loretta Danti, Mrs. Shobha, Jerome D’Souza, Mrs. Lydia Fernandes, Anand Anchan, Mrs. Ranjana Pai, Mrs. Usha Shenoy, Fr. Maxim Pinto, Mrs. Wilma Rodrigues, Mrs. Sunanda, Valerian Mathais and Krishna Amin.
The PTA meeting was presided over by Mrs. Meera Lobo, the outgoing President of the PTA. Following the prayer song, Mrs. Hilda Aranha welcomed the chief guest and resource person, Devdas Hebbar, other dignitaries and the parents of the students and the teaching staff. In his introductory address, Fr. Paul Sequeira appreciated the whole hearted cooperation given by the parents during the last year during the various programmes conducted before and during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of St. Lawrence High School, especially organising a Tulu play and contributing one lakh rupees to the Needy Students’ Fund. He pointed out that it was chiefly due to the efforts of the parents, teaching staff and students themselves that the PUC and SSLC results this year have been excellent, especially that of the PUC.
Mrs. Jacintha Lobo, lecturer in the PU College and the Joint Secretary of the PTA read the report of the activities of the PTA for the year 2009-10 and Mrs. Pricilla Rodrigues, Treasurer, presented the accounts for the year.
In his message to the parents, Devdas Hebbar highlighted the importance of the PTA and said that the parents are fortunate that their children are studying in St. Lawrence educational institutions which has been providing excellent opportunities to the students. He pointed out the evil effects of some of the modern gadgets such as television, mobile phones and internet on the students and appealed the parents regulate the use of these gadgets. He said that in order to inculcate discipline among their children, they themselves should be disciplined and should act as role models to their own children.
After the address of Devdas Hebbar, Fr. Paul Sequeira conducted the election procedure for the office bearers of the PTA for the year 2010-11. Thereafter, the outgoing PresidentMrs. Meera Lobo welcomed the newly elected President-Mrs. Shilpa Nayak and Vice President-Narayan Karkera by offering her a bouquet of flowers. Similarly, the outgoing Joint Secretary-Mrs. Jacintha Lobo handed over the minutes book to the new Joint Secretary-Valerian Crasta.
The newly elected President of the PTA for the year 2010-11, Mrs. Shilpa Nayak thanked the parents and teachers for considering her for this honourable position and appealed them to help her in fulfilling the responsibilities. The outgoing President, Mrs. Meera Lobo in her brief message thanked everyone for cooperating with her during her tenure as the President of the PTA.
Mrs. Shakuntala Suvarna, lecturer in the PU College proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compeered by Mrs. Shilpa Nayak.
