Udupi, 7 Jun 2013: The local residents of Adve village, near here are apprehensive over high tension cables that are laid so low by Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL).
UPCL has erected a high-tension-tower on the field owned by a certain peasant Natu Shetty in Adve village, near here. The high-tension cables are laid so low that the people who pass underneath get mild shock.
The locals fear walking in the vicinity as the high-tension cables pass through several acres of farmlands. The peasants who had to begin farming at the onset of monsoon fear to work below the low-lying high-tension cables.
Besides, the Adve village, the people have experienced mild electric shock in Nandikoor locality where the high-tension cables lie low. The journalists who visited the spot vouch in this regard.
The hundreds of locals and students who transverse on the newly-laid Santoor – Nandikoor road are fearing for their life, whenever they walk below the low-lying cables. The intensity of shock is being felt more during rainy season especially holding umbrella. The people who go to fetch raw branches to lay in the cow-pen and people who take cattle to graze had to go by the same route without an alternative fear the most of electric shocks.
The locals allege that despite the complaints to electricity department, UPCL project officers and political leaders their grievances are not addressed.
