Mysore, 01 Jun 2013 : Congress candidate K Venkatesh who contested from Piriyapattana legislative constituency won in the assembly elections held a few days ago. The assembly elections were postponed to May 28, owing to BJP candidate Sannamoge Gowda’s untimely death. It was the most significant battle ground for both JDS and Congress that was witnessed throughout the poll count on Friday May 31.
K Venkatesh won with a margin of 2,088 votes against his closest rival JDS candidate K Mahadev.
Although JDS was surging in 4 rounds of poll count out of a total of 18 rounds, while at the later 14 rounds Congress candidate K Venkatesh managed to get 62,045 votes against K Mahadev who secured 59,957 votes.
BJP candidate R T Satish (3,731 votes) BSP candidate Krishna Krishna (2,087), BSR Congress candidate H D Ganesh (5,669), SJP candidate Narayan (656), KJP candidate H C Basavaraju (827), independent candidate K S Sasikumar (1,335).
Piriyapattana constituency is the home district of CM Siddaramaiah, while the Congress bagged thumping victory in both recently held assembly elections also coincided with the polls held here a few days ago. JDS that has bagged 40 seats in the recently held assembly elections also considered it as a battle ground to draw statewide attention. Meanwhile H D Kumaraswamy’s mastermind to defeat Congress at the home district of CM Siddaramaiah did not work.
‘I have won assembly elections five times and aspire for ministerial berth. It’s up to the party leaders to award me ministerial berth,’ said K Venkatesh.
