Mangalore, 24 July 2010: The new integrated terminal building (NITB) of the Mangalore airport at Kenjar will start functioning from August 2, according to MR Vasudeva, director of the airport. The present terminal building is at Bajpe. When the new building starts functioning, the distance from the city to the airport will come down by 8 km.
Vasudeva told media persons on Friday that the new concrete road (laid near Sri Devi Institute of Technology), which leads from the Mangalore-Bajpe road to the NITB, would be the access road to the terminal building. The exit will be from the road that passes by the side of the Dakkan Park building.
Vasudeva said that the recommendation of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to replace the corrodible MI pipes used in the NITB with GI pipes would be complied with. Acrash fire tender will be placed at the NITB round the clock from August 02 till the MI pipes are replaced.
The fire services unit of the airport was shifted to a new building close to the centre of the operational area of the new concrete runway on Monday, he said.
