Udupi: Picnicking Tragedy; Engineering Student Drowns in St Mary’s Island

Udupi, 4 May 2013: An engineering student studying in a college at Mangalore was drowned in the Arabian Sea, when he had come to picnic along with his friends at St Mary’s Island, near Malpe, here on Friday May 3.

 

 

The deceased has been identified as twenty-two-year-old Tilakraj, son of Nagesh, a resident of Narikombu village in Bantwal taluk.  He was the final year student of Srinivas Engineering College, Mangalore.

Tilakraj had come to St Mary’s Island, here along with 14 colleagues on Friday morning, when they were playing in the water, Tilakraj and Sudesh were washed away in high tide at about 1.30pm on Friday.  Meanwhile, other colleagues managed to rescue Sudesh, but they made unsuccessful bid to rescue Tilakraj who was drowned.

The unconscious Sudesh was taken to TMA Pai Hospital and is recovering in ICU.

Malpe police registered a case in this regard.
