Abu Dhabi, 29 Apr 2013: Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha honoured Mr. Vasantha Shetty and Mr. Donald Pinto on Sunday evening at the Foodlands Guest House for their various contributions in their own fields.
Mr. Kudi Vasantha Shetty, recipient of Rastra Prashasthi 2013 for his achievement as a Best Teacher. He is also a great orator in English, Kannada and Tulu. He was here in U.A.E. on the occasion of UAE Bunts 39th Anniversary and has been awarded on that occasion "Bunta Vibhooshana" Prashasthi from UAE Bunts in Dubai last Friday. Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha took this opportunity to honour him and his wife and organized his one hour talk.
Mr. Donald Pinto a prominent member of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha was honoured by the association on the occasion of leaving India for good settle down and look after his property and estate.
On the occasion prominent personalities were present namely: Dr. B.R. Shetty (Patron – Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and MD NMC Group), Mr. Sudhir Kumar Shetty (COO, Global – UAE Exchange), Mr. Sarvotham Shetty (President, Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi) and members of Karnataka Sangha and a few guests.
Mr. Sarvotham Shetty welcomed the audience and introduced Mr. Vasantha Shetty and Mr. Donald Pinto to the audience and gave a brief info and explained the reason for gathering. Mr. Manohar Thonse, a prominent committee member of Karnataka Sangha introduced both Vasantha Shetty and Donald Pinto and highlighted their various achievements. Mr. Vasantha Shetty for his dedicated service as a teacher and his service to various educational institutions working in many positions such as head of Karnataka Teachers association and local institutions.
Mr. Donald Pinto as a member of Karnataka Sangha was involved in various Sangha programs, and esp. his participant as a singer on many occasions and programs organized by the Sangha. Also his contribution as leading singer of Pearls of Mangalore and his service to Konkani community as a prominent and founder member and committee member of Pearls of Mangalore musical troupe. He has also sung in one of the CD taken out by Pearls of Mangalore in 2011. He further said he is leaving U.A.E. (Abu Dhabi) to take care of his Coffee Estate and planning to open a Pharmacy in his home town Chikmagalur.
Padmashree Dr. B.R. Shetty honoured them with traditional shawls and flower bouquets. Mr. Sarvotham Shetty then requested members of the Sangha to say a few words on Donald Pinto. Mr. Ravi Rai (VP- NMC HR) spoke highly on Donald Pinto as a member and his talents as a singer, actor and his good nature. Mr. Lancy Pinto also spoke highly about him and his close association with him and his family and he will be missed by all the members.
Mr. Donald Pinto thanked them all in his reply and he specially thanked Dr. B.R. Shetty for giving him the opportunity to come to Gulf and chance to work in New Medical Centre. He said that if he has achieved anything today and was successful in his life here in U.A.E. he owes it to Dr. B.R. Shetty as he was the person helped him to stand on his feet and also helped his mother to get a job here in U.A.E previously and he is grateful to him and his support. He also thanked all the members of the Karnataka Sangha for their support and he will continue to serve Kannada back in his home town in whatever capacity. Dr. B.R. Shetty wished him good luck and his wishes for his success in whatever venture he takes up in future.
Mr. Kudi Vasantha Shetty gave an hour talk on various human aspects, life, language, relationships and personality development. It was a treat to listen to his talk in Kannada. In brief he explained how simple life can be if we follow a few simple rules, respect each other and especially our parents and teachers and to live a healthy, happy life.
At the end of the session a group photo of all the members of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha was held.
Kudi Vasantha Shetty – a brief intro and his achievements.
Kudi Vasantha Shetty, headmaster of Sri Vishnumurthy High School at Kudi village in Udupi taluk of Udupi district, has been chosen for the national-level Best Teacher Award, Mr. Shetty has been serving as the founder-headmaster of Sri Vishnumurthy School at Kudi since 1980.
He is among the senior headmasters in Udupi district, serving in the post for the past 32 years. Mr. Shetty had his primary education at Marne and Patla villages, and high school education at St Lawrence Highschool, Moodubelle. He did his B.A. degree at MGM College in Udupi.
He then did his B.Ed. at Dr. T.M.A. Pai College of Education and M.A. in Kannada from the University of Mysore, while in service.
Mr. Shetty would receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Teachers’ Day on September 5.
Prior to Government of Karnataka introducing hot porridge in School, Vasant Shetty implemented the same in his school with help of noble donors.
Currently he is President of "Siri Tuluva Chaavadi" Udupi, President of Teacher’s Assocation Udupi, Member "Karnataka State Head Masters Association", actively involved in Temple renovation, Garodi development projects and advisor and guide to several social works.
