Moodubelle, 19 July 2010: Vanamahotsava, a programme to sensitize the students of the educational institutions about the need to plant and protect trees in an attempt to preserve the ecological balance and clean environment was observed in St. Lawrence Composite PU College on Monday, 19th July 2010 at 9.30 am. Principal Fr. Paul Sequeira, presided over the programme. The programme was conducted by the students of the Shanti Squad.
Following the prayer song, the CPL, Deeksha welcomed the Principal, staff members and the students. Shubha Nayak of 10th standard B explained the need to plant trees and highlighted the significance of the Vanamahotsava from students point of view. First Year PUC Commerce students sang ’Nityotsava’ song about the environment. Vote of thanks as proposed by Shushma of 10th B, leader of the Shanti Squad. Jasmine Lobo compeered the programme.
Fr. Paul Sequeira symbolically planted the sapling in a pot as it was raining heavily outside. Addressing the students about the significance of the Vanamahotsava, Fr. Paul impressed upon the students the need to protect our environment by planting and protecting the trees and its advantages in maintaining the clean and healthy environment. He further said that after the PUC students plant the saplings and move out of the college after completing their studies, it is the duty of the new students to continue looking after the saplings that they had planted and continue this process year after year so that the saplings grow into healthy trees and increase the greenery around the school-college campus.
