Mumbai, 7 April 2013: Fr. Dominic Vas, Spiritual Director of St. Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association , Mira Road inaugurated a permanent show case of the things of ‘Matov Sobhan’ (traditional old things of mangalorean culture), at “Infnat Jesus Hall” of St. Joseph’s Church, Mira Road, after the Konkani Mass at 8 am on 7th April 2013.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Dominic Vas, OCD, praised the efforts taken by the Association members in gathering old traditional things used by our forefathers which is a treasure of our Mangalorean culture. He further said, we elders should bring the children and explain them the things displayed here and requested all Mangalorean Konkani speaking people to make a proper use of the free service of ‘Matov Sobhan’ given by the St. Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association to up lift our tradition.
A large crowd was gathered at the programme and amazed to see the old articles displayed which were rarely seen before. A large number of Mangalorean traditional articles like-Kurponn, Mand, Kanye, Doy, Kundli, Modki, Sher, Bhati, Kail, Adallo, Kailato, Shinke, Chimny, Koiti, Lampyao, Koitul, Monnai, Mudo, Tovo, Apya kail, Musall, Kaanti, Gumat, Vaallni and many more.
Prasann- Niddodi, welcomed the crowd explaining the need of uplifting the Konkani Culture in our families and said that this exhibition is a small effort towards the same. Mr. John Crasta, President of St. Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association offered vote of thanks and said that the service of Matov Sobhan offers Vovyo ani Verse and Vojem Vorchem during the Wedding ceremony and is open also to the Konkani people of other parishes of Mumbai.
