Udupi, 09 Mar 2013: Six persons were injured in an alleged attack by Bajrang Dal activists on a prayer house at Moodubelle near here on Friday March 8 night. The injured were admitted to district Government Hospital here.
Thirty-eight-year-old Surya from Karkal, sixteen-year-old Prem Mendonca, Shantaram, II year engineering student Savio Johnson, Emilia Lobo – mother of Bible Society member Roshan were wounded and admitted at district Government Hospital here. The critically wounded Ramesh has been admitted to KMC Hospital, Manipal here.
The police arrested Bajrang Dal activists – Sanjeev Poojary, Ranjit Poojary, Sukesh, Dileep, Jayaprakash, Prakash, Raghavendra Acharya, Ramesh Shetty, Satish, Vishwanat Acharya and Suresh.
Speaking to media persons, Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy said that swift action will be taken in the matter. ‘We are taking this incident seriously. Already around 10 persons have been arrested and the rest will be caught soon. Such kinds of incidents will not be tolerated,’ said Pratap Reddy.
SP Dr Boralingaiah also assured quick action in the case and said that FIR has already been registered against the arrested people. A clear picture will emerge only after further investigations, said Dr Boralingaiah.
Roshan said that around 6 to 8 persons were in the prayer house, when a group barged into and began assaulting with least concern for elderly women, said Roshan.
Roshan took a few mobile clippings on his phone and also informed SP Dr Boralingaiah and Shirva police, who rushed to the spot.
‘This prayer house is functioning since 12 years. Bajrang Dal had given warned in the past, but never attacked. Eight years ago, they had attempted to attack but timely action by the police had foiled their plan,’ said Roshan.
