Shankarpura, 4 July 2010: Following a recent visit to the rehabilitation shelter for the destitute especially suffering from mental illness near Shankarpura, ‘Vishwasada Mane’ (Home of Hope), Geetanjali M. Suvarna, the Udupi District BJP Secretary said that the state government should support such endeavours. Since five to six years, the Home of Hope has been giving shelter and treatment to the mentally ill persons who have been found roaming about the streets in neighbouring areas.
Geetanjali Suvarna after reviewing the working of the shelter and the basic amenities provided to the mentally ill destitute felt that with the financial help from the government more such persons can be rehabilitated. She further said that not only the government but also other social organisations should come forward to help Pastor Sunil John D’Souza who is running the shelter.
Speaking at this occasion, Pastor Sunil John D’Souza said that over 200 destitute have found shelter in the Home of Hope. Around 50 of them have recovered from their ailment and have been reunited with their respective families. However, so far the government has not responded to the request of support. In this respect appeals have been sent to the concerned authorities.
On the occasion of the visit of Geetanjali Suvarna sweets were distributed to 150 inmates of the Home of Hope. Mahesh M. Suvarna, Prabhakar Indira Nagar and Babu Mathew were present during the visit of Geetanjali Suvarna to the Home of Hope.
