Udupi, 27 Feb 2013: It’s the practice to offer mura of rice, money, silver or gold jewellery to temple deity for granting the favour of devotees. However, there lies a worship center here, wherein the devotees offer bundi laddus in thousands!
It has been the rare practice being held at Sri Rama mandir, Dhonderangady, near Perdoor here since ancient times. The records are available that the practice has been pursued since over 119 years, wherein the devotees offer thousands of bundi laddus.
This kind of offerings will be held in a set date every year. The devotees arrive at Sri Rama mandir throughout the day and night. They collectively join in prayer and worship the following morning. The free food offerings will be held on mid-day. Meanwhile, the temple authorities offer the laddus to everyone that is offered by devotees as offerings to temple deity earlier.
The devotees offer the laddus for granting favours such as gift of a child, jobs, good health, owing a house, higher education, good health of livestock etc. The devotees from neighboruing districts also offer the laddus for granting their prayers in intercession of Lord Rama. This year the temple received over 70,000 ladus from devotees.
It’s significant that the people of different faith, caste and creed partake in puja celebrations at Sri Rama mandir that is managed by GSB community, said Kashinat Bhat Kallianpur, who leads the celebrations.
