Dombivli, 14 Feb 2013: The birth anniversary of late Bharat Ratna Bhimsen Joshi was observed in Savitribahi Phule auditorium on February 3, 2013 at 8 pm by GSB Welfare Centre, Dombivli. Young classical artists from Karnataka presented classical music at this occasion.
In the beginning of the programme, the youth presented Ganeshvandane collectively in Hamsadhwani. Thereafter Balachandra Prabhu and Raghunandan Bhat presented jugalbandhi in Yaman raga. There were other singers who presented classical and vocal music. Violin player T. Ranga Pai and Harmonium player Shankara Shenoy manifested their skills on these instruments.
After interval ‘Bhimsen Joshi Smrithi Puraskar’ was presented to eminent table player Pandit Omkar Gulvadi by Dr. Mahesh Joshi, the Additional Director of Bangalore Doordarshan who was the chief guest of the programme.
S.S. Kamath, eminent businessman and social worker who organized the programme and Nandkumar Nayak, Marine Engineer were present on the dais as honorary guests. B.G. Pai, the president of the GSB Welfare Centre welcomed the guests by offering flower bouquets.
Speaking at this occasion, Dr. Mahesh Joshi recalled the service rendered by late Bhimsen Joshi to classical music and appreciated the organizers of the programme in keeping the memory of the great classical singer alive.
In the beginning of the programme, the secretary of the GSB Welfare Centre Vishwanath N. Bhat welcomed the guests and gathering. The Classical Musica programme was conducted by U. Padmanabha Pai. Mrs. Bharathi Sudhir Nayak compeered the programme. Kum. Sowmya proposed the vote of thanks.
