Moodubelle, 26 June 2010: The inauguration function of various Associations of St. Lawrence Composite PU College was held on Saturday, 26th June 2010 at 12 noon. Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium School was the chief guest.
The function began with the prayer song sung by the High School students. Mrs. Sarojini in her introductory and welcome address highlighted the importance of various associations both in the PU College and the High School.
Fr. Lancy Saldanha formally inaugurated the associations by lighting the lamp followed by Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, in-charge teachers and student leaders-CPL Deeksha and SPL Vinaya R. Nayak. Thereafter, the student Presidents of various associations brought small lamps and placed them by the side of the larger lamp on the dais.
In his message to the students following the formal inauguration of the Associations, the chief guest of the function, Fr. Lancy Saldanha said that it is not enough to have only academic knowledge but also to have a wider knowledge and overall personality development. Further he said that it is important to have a healthy mind in a healthy body and emphasised the fact that in order to get a job only the degree is not enough. Nowadays, in interviews, besides academic achievements the candidates are also expected to produce other certificates which they achieved during their studies. Hence, Fr. Lancy asked the students to take interest in developing their talents by joining various associations.
In his presidential speech, Fr. Paul Sequeira pointed out that each student has some talents which should be developed. The institution is providing ample opportunities to the students to join one or the other Association so that they can give proper channel to their hidden talents. He appealed the students to make best use of these Associations to develop their interests and personality.
Fr. Paul also emphasised that it is only through cooperation of each and every one, especially the staff that difficult tasks also can be achieved. As an example he said that it was chiefly due to the tireless efforts of the teachers of the PU College, that the overall result of the Second Year PUC for the year 2009-2010 was 97.3 per cent for which the Udupi District PU College Principal’s Association has recently awarded the ‘Certificate of Excellence’ to St. Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle for securing Third position among the aided PU Colleges in the Udupi District. Nitte Junior College has stood First and St. Mary’s PU College, Shirva has secured Second position. On behalf of the institution, the ‘Certificate of Excellence’ was received by Fr. Paul Sequeira in a function held at Ambalpady Temple Auditorium on 24th June 2010.
As a mark of appreciation of the efforts of the teachers, Fr. Paul Sequeira invited all of them to the dais to whom Fr. Lancy Saldanha symbolically handed over the ‘Certificate of Excellence’.
