Moodubelle, 25 June 2010: It is now official that Mrs. Jacintha Aranha who was tipped to head the Belle Grama Panchayat was formally elected as the President on Friday, 25th June 2010. In a 20 member house, Mrs. Jacintha Aranha polled 11 votes as against 9 votes obtained by her rival, Mrs. Ranjani S. Iyer. Thus, Mrs. Jacintha Aranha was elected as the President of Belle Grama Panchayat by a margin of two votes.

In a similar manner, Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna was elected as the Vice Pressident of the Belle Grama Panchayat who got 12 out of 20 votes thus defeating her only rival, Miss Lalitha Poojarthy who polled only 8 votes.
The election process for the President and Vice President of the Belle Grama Panchayat sarted at around 2 pm in the Panchayat office conference room. Dr. Shankar Shetty of Mobile Animal Dispensary, Udupi was the presiding officer who conducted the entire process of election. All the 20 elected members of the Belle Grama Panchayat were present for electing the President and Vice President of the Panchayat.
Soon after the voting process was over, the counting of votes was undertaken in front of the contesting candidates in the presence of their supporters and the counting process was over by 3.30 pm. Soon after the election results were declared the members of the Panchayat and the family memebrs and well wishers of the winning candidates congratulated both Mrs. Jacintha Aranha and Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna by offering them flower bouquets and garlands.
Speaking after being declared elected as the President of the Belle Grama Panchayat, Mrs. Jacintha Aranha thanked God for the opportunity that He has given to her to serve the people. She also thanked the members of the Panchayat who voted for her and the family memebrs and ward members who had elected her as the member of the Grama Panchayat at the first place. She made an appeal to all the memebrs of the Grama Panchayat to cooperate with her in working for the welfare of the people of Belle and Kattingeri villages.
Mr. Devdas Hebbar in his congratulatory address said that the cooperative spirit that has been witnessed in the working of the Belle Grama Panchayat should continue for the betterment of the Belle and Kattingeri Villages. He promised full support for all the developmental activities that the new administration would undertake in the villages without any party affiiliation. He thanked everyone present for the smooth conduct of the election process.
Among the well wishers who were present to congratulate Mrs. Jacintha Aranha and Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna were Mr. Shivaji Suvarna, former President of the C.A. Bank, Moodubelle and Mrs. helen D’Souza, President of the Jyothi Mahila Mandal, Edmeru.
