Pamboor, 22 January 2013: It is a proud moment in the life of Sunitha Lobo individually and the Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre for Mentally Challenged Children, Pamboor as she is on her way to participate in the Special Olympics World Winter Games at Pyeong Chang in South Korea. The World Winter Games will take place from 25 January to 5 February 2013. Sunita Lobo is the only athlete selected from Karnataka to represent India in the floor hockey team.
A brief function to wish success to Sunitha Lobo in the forthcoming World Winter Games was held at the Manasa on Saturday 19th January at 10.30 am. Shree Madhvash Tantri of Shree Krishna Mutt was the chief guest of the function. In his message he appreciated Sunita. Shree Nityananda Volakadu the President of the Senior Citizen Committee Udupi District, President and Vice President of Parent Teachers Association of Manasa Centre Mr. Dayananda Salian and Mrs. Vanitha Shetty were also present.
Mr. Alphonse Decosta the Vice President of Manasa Centre and Ms Remedia D’Souza the Managing Trustee wished Sunita Pinto safe journey to Bangalore, Delhi and onwards to South Korea and back and hoped and prayed that she will perform well in the floor hockey competition at the World Winter Games and win medals and make Manasa proud by her achievements.
Sunitha Lobo, in her reply to best wishes from the dignitaries profusely thanked the management and staff for encouraging and supporting her. She also assured that she will do her best at the games.
The dignitaries on the dias, Teachers and the Parent Teachers Association office bearers collectively presented flower bouquets to Sunitha as a token of their appreciation of her efforts and wishing her good luck in the forthcoming World Winter Games. The students of Manasa presented a song of ‘good luck and best wishes’ to Sunitha.
She manifested her interest in various activities and participated actively in sports and cultural events. Presently, she is doing her Vocational Course in tailoring. Sunitha developed an interest in floor hockey in 2010 and had the opportunity to attend the National Coaching and Championship camp for floor hockey at Shimla in September 2010.
Her dedication, ability and determination prompted the selectors to shortlist Sunitha Lobo as a probable athlete to be trained in Pre-Olympics preparatory national camps which she attended at Delhi and Himachal Pradesh in August 2011 and 2012. Her performance and hard work in these pre-Olympics camps assured a place for her in the Indian floor hockey team for the World Winter Games at Pyeong Chang, South Korea which will be held between Jan 25th to Feb 5th 2013.
Ms Remedia D’Souza President of Manasa Centre welcomed the guest and Mrs. Jyothi compeered the program. Sr. Thelma Lewis Principal of Manasa Centre proposed the vote of thanks.
