Deeksha and Vinaya Nayak elected as student leaders in St. Lawrence Composite PU College

Moodubelle, 19 June 2010: The elections for the student leaders of St. Lawrence Composite PU College were held on Saturday, 19th June 2010 between 10.30 an and 12 noon and results were declared by 1 pm. In a well contested and enthusiastically participated college-school elections, Kum. Deeksha of Second Year  PU Arts was declared elected as the College Pupil Leader (CPL) with 204 votes defeating her only rival, Alwyn Lobo of Second Year PU Commerce who polled 112 votes. Incidentally, Kum. Deeksha was not present in the college when the election was held and results were declared. Being an expert Saxophone player, she has gone to Bangalore to give a musical performance along with her father, who is a saxophone teacher and her sister who is also a Saxophone player. 

Ivan Lobo-ACPL

Ivan Lobo of First Year PU Arts was elected as the Assistant College Pupil Leader (ACPL) who got overwhelming 249 votes as against Krishna Prasad of First Year PU Commerce who polled only 51 votes.

In the High School section, Kum. Vinaya Nayak of 10th B class was declared elected as the School Pupil Leader (SPL) with 171 votes defeating her only rival Kum. Elvira Pinto also of 10th B class who secured 73 votes.

There were three contestants for the post of Assistant School Pupil Leader (ASPL)-Karthik Bhat of  9th A class, Joy Valentine Fernandes also of 9th A class and Manjunath Shenoy of 9th B class. Following the elections, Karthik Bhat won the post of ASPL with 123 votes defeating both his rivals-Joy Valentine Fernandes who secured 86 votes and Manjunath Shenoy who polled 32 votes.

It is a coincidence that the CPL as well as the SPL posts in St. Lawrence Composite PU College have been cornered by the girls and the ACPL and ASPL posts have gone to the boys.Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College congratulated the winners in the elections.

According to Fr. Paul Sequeira, every year the elections for the students’ leaders are held in order to give an experience of democratic process to the students of both high school and PU College. The entire election process of the high school was conducted by the students themselves under the guidance of the teachers. Even the students acted as security force to maintain proper queue and peaceful conduct of the elections. Students showed great interest in the election process.
