Katapadi, 16 June 2010: A woman named Gulabi Serigar and her child, Shreya, a Lower KG student miraculously escaped with minor injuries to the woman when two trees collapsed on the roof of their house dur ing the night of Sunday, 13th June 2010 near Mattu Shri Vishnumoorthy temple in Kote Village near Katapadi.
Two trees, one a mango tree of the neighbour of Gulabi collapsed on the front portion of her house, while another tree fell on the rear portion of the roof. When this incident took place, Gulabi was asleep with her child Shreya. As soon as she heard the big sound of the collapse of the first tree, Gulabi ran out of the house with her child and thus saves her as well as Shreya’s lives by quick decision of rushing outside the house. However, Gulabi sustained injuries on her hand.
The impact of the collapse of two trees on the roof has caused a lot of damage to the house of Gulabi. Not only hundreds of tiles and cement sheets have been broken to pieces, some of the supporting beams have also been damaged. The impact of the trees was so much that even the walls have developed cracks. The incessant rains have caused flooding inside the house.
The local village panchayat members and the revenue officials have visited the house of Gulabi to make an estimate of the damage caused by the collapse of two trees on the roof of her house. According to an independent estimate the total damage caused due to the house of Gulabi Serigar due to the collapse of two trees is around Rs. 50,000/-
