Udupi, 12 Dec 2012: Even though God bestows a favor, the priest lays stumble-block in realizing; this proverb is aptly be true in the case of Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Center that is located in the jurisdiction of Belle gram panchayat.
Despite Deputy Commissioner has sanctioned 1.60 acres of plot for playground for Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Center, the officials of Belle gram panchayat are harassing the office bearers of the Center since five years, without issuing no-objection-certificate.
The Center is a legal entity which has been engaged in caring for physically challenged children who are neglected in the society for over three-decades.
Over 160 children from one-year to sixteen-years are cared at the Center that offer training in handicrafts, stitching and computer. The differently-abled children are being trained to manage their tasks on their own. Nevertheless, five physically-challenged students of the Center competed in World Special Olympics and secured medals, thereby bringing laurels to state and nation. Twenty-years-old Sunita has been selected to represent India in floor-hockey competitions in Special Olympics scheduled to be held at South Korea during January 2013.
It’s tragic that the Center that has world class talent in Paralympics has no ground of their own. It’s owing to this, the Center president Remedia D’Souza requisitioned district administration to allot 1.60 acre of plot - government-owned land that lie besides the Center under survey number 198. The former Deputy Commissioner Hemalata sanctioned the plot on her visit the premises. Meanwhile, Hemalata instructed Tahsilder and local Padubelle gram panchayat to issue no-objection-certificate to the Center. However, it’s five years, the office bearers of Center are harassed by gram panchayat officials without issuing no-objection-certificate.
Highlights:
‘The migrant labourers are illegally living in survey number 198. They would create trouble if evicted. If the encroached land is legalized and any part remained, we can give it to Manasa, which would not be possible right now. It has been informed to district administration,’ Secretary, Belle gram panchayath.
‘I don’t seek land for my children. If the neglected children in the society had to brought to the mainstream, they need extra curricular activities while sports ground is essential in this regard, Remedia D’Souza, president of Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Center.
