Pune, 21 Nov 2012 (DHNS): The Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab caught alive after the 26/11 massacre was hanged at 7.30 in the morning at Pune’s Yerawada jail on Wednesday.
Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil announced the hanging at 8.30 am and said "I sincerely believe this is a tribute to all innocent people and the officers who lost their lives in the Mumbai attacks."
Kasab’s mercy plea had been rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee on November 5. He was then shifted to from his high-security Arthur Road Jail cell in Mumbai to the Pune jail.
Ajmal Kasab and nine other Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists had sneaked into Mumbai on November 26, 2008 and shot dead 166 people over three days. Working in pairs they attacked several city landmarks.
He was sentenced to death by the Bombay High Court in October last year on charges ranging from treason to waging war against India. The Supreme Court turned down his appeal in August this year.
