Bejai/Mangalore, 12 Oct 2012: A part of the centenary celebrations of St. Francis Parish of Bejai, Mangalore began with a magnificent cultural evening filled with beautiful traditional and folk dances.
The event began at 6:30pm on Friday with a traditional pan-pod welcome by Vice President of Parish Council Augustine Rodrigues and followed by welcome dance by little children of the parish. Parish Priest Rev. Dr. Victor Machado. Welcomed the parishioners and said that the cultural program organized was by our parishioners and for our parishioners, it is our day and let us enjoy and spend time in a family atmosphere.
Thereafter it was total entertainment and magnificent dances, skits, songs followed one after the other by little children, teenagers, young and old every one. Hilarious skits on marriage, doctor-patients presented by various ward members provided audience rib-tickling comedy.
A short tableau on a bible theme healing the blind was enacted beautifully by Capuchin Brothers was presented beautifully and received a huge round of applause for their supper performance.
There was also a touch of Goan culture and songs as a few songs such as Dol moje bai and Havn saiba polthodi Vetam for which little children presented wonderful dances.
The beautiful musical orchestra was presented by students of Bejai Parish which was well received and appreciated by the audience.
A final tableau on raising of the dead by Bejai Parishioners and all characters did justice to their individual roles and it was a piece of presented liked and appreciated by all.
Over all it was one of the best programs and all items were presented by all age groups of parishioners from the little kids to the oldest parishioners, laity, religious brothers, priests, nuns, entertaining in their talents with their wonderful creations and performances. It was just the beginning and second day would be a day offered to the Parish vocations i.e. for all religious people born in Bejai and serving all over the Nation in the Lord’s vineyard. They would be honoured on that day by the parishioners for their dedication to serve people.
The second day i.e. on 13th September would be also a offering day wherein all parishioners offer their offerings to the benefit of the needy and under-previlaged and the final day on 14th will be grand finale with grand celebration of Centenary of St. Francis Xavier Parish.
