Kaup, 05 June 2010: The Vidyaniketan Group of Educational Institutions, Kaup and the Udupi Artists Court jointly organised a condolence meeting on Thursday, 3rd June 2010 at 2 pm for the victims of the Air India Express IX-812 which was crashed at the Bajpe airport on 22nd May 2010. In this tragedy, Cavin Sequeira of Marne, Moodubelle, who was the student of the Vidyaneiketan School had lost his life.
The udupi Zilla Panchayat President, Mrs. Gladys D’Almeida inaugurated the condolence meeting by lighting the lamp. Hundreds of students lighted candles in honour of their schoolmate, Cavin Sequeira who was in the 10th standard and had passed the CBSC examination with high marks. He had gone for vacation with his parents and younger brothers in Dubai. However, on his way back home from Dubai, the Air India Express in which he was travelling along with 166 passengers crashed while approaching the Bajpe airport in which 158 persons lost their lives. Rich tributes were paid to Cavin during the condolence meeting.
The Director of the Vidyaniketan Group of Institutions, K P Acharya presided over the condolence programme. The chief guests for the programme were: Dakshina Kannada District Kannada sahitya Parishad President-Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of the Udupi Artists Court-Ramesh Kidiyur and Zamat-i-Hind Udupi District Secretary-U Anwar Ali.
The various painters including PN Acharay, Ramesh Kidiyur, Vishweshwara Parkala, Shekhar, DL Achar, P R Bhat, K L Bhat, Upadhyaya Moodubelle, Shridhar Thottam, Jeevan shetty, Shayma Manipal, Shashidhar Bangera, Suchala, Amit Puranik, Lokesh, Shweta rani, Manas and Pritesh Sainath were to paint during the occasion.
