Moodubelle, 04 oct 2012: Gandhi Jayanthi was celebrated in St. Lawrence Composite PU College on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Gandhiji’s life and teachings were explained and his contribution to our nation was highlighted. His value system was stressed upon which is an inspiration to all of us especially his life of prayer and work is a motivation to all. After highlighting the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, floral tribute was offered to the portrait of Gandhiji by the heads of the institutions, squad advisers and student leaders. This was followed by Bhajans which were favorites of Gandhiji.
Senior teacher, Mr. Srinivas Ballal led the students to meditation such as pranayam for twenty minutes. He pointed out the importance of ‘breathing’ which is very important for concentration and success for study and life. He said that through meditation we become aware of our inner and spiritual strength which guides our life. He said that students can experience God through meditation. After the meditation students prayed for various needs. Finally, the session was concluded with the National Anthem.
This programme was conducted by the Preethi Squad. The advisers were Mr. Kamalakar, Mr. Arun and Mrs. Sumitha with the help of the squad members.
After the prayer session, there was ‘shramadhan’ by the students and teachers. The students worked in the garden and playground in the campus and cleaning the sides of the road. They also cleaned the classrooms and building. The students did ‘shramadhan’ under the supervision of the teachers. Some students also participated in the Rangoli Competition.
Thus, the Gandhi Jayanthi celebration was a great experience with learning about the life and teachings of Gandhiji, singing his favourite bhajans, meditation and yoga as well as shramadhan.
