Mangalore, 04 June 2010: Mangalorean residents turn furious towards an act of negligence by Mangalore city corporation. The undue delay in completing laying of the roads at Valencia claims the life of the pillion rider of the bike.
The incident occurred on 2nd of June when Ashok Pashan carpenter in Dubai was riding pillion on his friend’s two-wheeler. When his friend lost his balance at the edges of the half-constructed concrete road, Pashan fell on the road and died on the spot. Pashan was on his way to the airport to board a plane to Dubai. Pashan happens to be yet another victim of delayed road construction in Mangalore.
The incident has evoked sharp response from the localities of Valencia who conducted a protest following the incident on the next day. A large number people led by the leaders took part in the protest. They shouted slogans against the inadequacy of MCC in timely construction of the road.
It is more than seven months since the concretization work started and it is still incomplete. Now the big question before the public is this: Is this incident going to be an eye opener to the MCC and will it act immediately. So that no more lives fall prey to it.
