Moodubelle, 29 May 2010: In the view of the excellent results in the final examinations this year (2010), the Principal and staff of St. Lawrence PU College decided to improve on it and arranged special coaching classes for the Second Year and First Year PU students in English Speaking Course and Basic Consepts in Science respectively.
The English Speaking Course for the Second year PU students commenced on 24 May and continued till 26 May 2010. Thirty students regularly attended the course and took the benefit of the efforts that was put in by the Principal and the resource persons. The chief aim of the English Speaking Course was the development of the skill among the students in communication. Various activities such as debate, discussions, elocution, practice in pronunciation and reading as well as communication skills were encouraged during these days. Students were also encouraged to express themselves through skit and other competitions.
The English Speaking Course has succeeded in instilling confidence among the students and has created an interest among them to learn more about the language. Br. Mahesh and Br. Sydney (CSC) were the resource persons for the English Speaking Course that was organised by Fr. Paul Sequeira, the Principal f St. Lawrence PU College. At the end of the corse, the students expressed their happiness and expressed their gratitude to Fr. Paul for organising the course.
A weeklong full day coaching class in Basic Concepts in Science was organised in St. Lawrence PU College between 21 May to 28 May 2010. Forty six students of the First Year PU Science took advanatage of this coaching session. The aim of this coaching class was to make the students familiar with the basic science concepts that they had studied in high school in Kannada and make their task easier while learning the subjects in the English medium.
The teachers who conducted this coaching class include: Miss Divya (Physics), Mrs. Shruthi D’Souza (Mathematics), Mrs. Shakuntala (Computer Science), Miss Supreeta (Chemistry), Mrs. Jyothi Castelino (Biology), Fr. Arun Mendonca (Methodology) and Fr. Paul Sequeira (English Speaking).
