Udupi, 31 Aug 2012: Kudi Vasantha Shetty, headmaster of Sri Vishnumurthy High School at Kudi village in Udupi taluk of Udupi district, has been chosen for the national-level Best Teacher Award, according to the Department of Public Instruction here on Thursday.
Mr. Shetty has been serving as the founder-headmaster of Sri Vishnumurthy School at Kudi since 1980.
He is among the senior headmasters in Udupi district, serving in the post for the past 32 years. Mr. Shetty had his primary education at Marne and Patla villages, and high school education at Moodubelle village. He did his B.A. degree at MGM College in Udupi.
He then did his B.Ed. at Dr. T.M.A. Pai College of Education here.
He did his M.A. in Kannada from the University of Mysore, while in service.
Mr. Shetty told The Hindu that he was delighted at getting the award as his services as a teacher had been recognised.
“I am glad that my school which is in rural area had received recognition. I began my career as a headmaster. My father was also a teacher and being from a rural area, I had a vision on how a school should be run. I followed it. Among other things, we give importance to discipline and time-maintenance in our school,” he said.
Education officer at the Department of Public Instruction Ashok Kamath said Mr. Shetty would receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Teachers’ Day on September 5.
