Moodubelle, 24 May 2010: The day was hot and the atmosphere was tense and emotion filled as the grief stricken family, relatives and parish community of Moodubelle bid the final tearful farewell to young Cavin on Monday, 24 May 2010 at 4 pm in St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle. Cavin had died in the tragic Air India Express IX-812 crash on Saturday, 22 May 2010.
The funeral cortege reached the Church at around 4pm accompanied by the sorrowful parents and relatives of late Cavin. The funeral Mass was concelebrated by five priests-Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Fr. Paul Sequeira, Fr. Arun Mendonca, Fr. Charles Menezes and Fr. Maxim Pinto Cap. The funeral homily was preached by Fr. Paul Sequeira who said that the parents and family members of late Cavin are in deep grief and we do not know how to console them. He then narrated an imaginary letter purportedly written by Cavin from heaven to his parents. The contents of the imaginary letter were quite meaningful and full of emotional overtones which touched the hearts of every one who was present in the Church in large numbers.
At the end of the funeral Mass, Mr. Peter Raphael Aranha, Headmaster of Church aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle delivered the funeral oration. Thereafter, Fr. Charles Menezes from Arbi, presently the parish priest of Nirmarga, conducted the funeral service. The people who had assembled for the funeral went in procession to the cemetery where the mortal remains of late Cavin were buried in a newly built grave.
There was a pall of gloom throughout the day in Moodubelle when people came to know about the funeral of late Cavin. People from Moodubelle and even neighbouring parishes had come to bid final adieu to Cavin. The staff members of Vidya Niketan School of Kaup where Cavin had studied till 10th standard were also present for his funeral. Most of the people were seen in the church wiping their moist eyes and showing solidarity with the bereaved family. No one can deny that this is one of the greatest blows rendered to the Sequeira family of Marne by the tragic air crash at Bajpe.
Cavin was a bright student and promising young boy who had great dreams for the future. He had passed the CBSC examination with first class and had gone to Dubai to spend the vacation with his parents- Charles and Benedicta Sequeira and his siblings Chris (6) and Clion (2). Cavin had studied up to 7th standard in Dubai and for further education he was sent by his parents to Vidya Niketan School at Kaup, where he studied from 8th to 10th standard. He was going to the school at Kaup staying with his aunt (father’s sister) Gracy D’Souza in Pamboor. In fact he was on his way back home to complete the admission formalities for the PUC in St. Mary’s PU College, Shirva. However, the cruel hands of fate snatched the life of this promising young boy.
All the uncles of Cavin were present for the funeral. Besides Ronnie who is based at Marne, Andrew has come from Dubai, Victor from USA, Valerian and Alwyn from Mumbai.
Bellevision expresses sorrow at the loss of Cavin and extends condolence to the bereaved family, especially Charles and Benedicta Sequeira, parents of late Cavin.
