Mangalore Corporation fines hotel owners for not maintaining kitchen hygiene

Mangalore, 14 Jul 2012: Health officials of Mangalore City Corporation on Friday issued notice to four hotels in Hampankatta and imposed a spot fine on two among them for failing to maintain cleanliness.

 

 

They inspected hotels Perera, Shanti Sagar, Suvarna, and Sagar, said Madhu S. Manohar, Environment Engineer, at the corporation.

 

He told that none of the cooks in the four hotels had medical fitness certificates. They had been asked to obtain them. Owners of all hotels had been given a seven-day deadline to restore hygiene. Otherwise, they have been warned of closing the hotels down.

 

The Environment Engineer said that hotel Shanti Sagar was made to close down temporarily. The owner was using an open area behind the hotel for cooking. The staff kept the prepared food and threw waste in the same area. The owner was fined Rs. 5,000 on the spot.

 

He said that owner of the Hotel Sagar was fined Rs. 2,000. The hotel did not have a separate kitchen. It used the backyard as kitchen. Mr. Manohar said that owner of Hotel Suvarna was letting wastewater into an open area behind, though there was underground drainage facility. The kitchen of Hotel Perera lacked cleanliness.

 

The official said the team inspected Sri Sai Ladies Hostel on Mahatma Gandhi Road. Its authorities were told to provide mosquito nets to inmates.

 

Meanwhile, another team of revenue officials of the civic body removed six unauthorised hoardings between Mary Hill and Kavoor on Friday.
