Moodubelle, 28 Jun 2012: There is no greater irony than the coexistence of noble slogans under the Complete Cleanliness Drive “Swachhathakke kare, Neenagu dore” and “Nairmalyave Sampatthu, Swachhatheye Samruddhi..” and heaps of rotting garbage nearby, that too very close to the Belle Grama Panchayat office on the Santekatte.
With the onset of monsoon, the un-cleared garbage is posing a great danger of monsoon related diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikengunia, cholera and viral fever. It is surprising that in spite of the location of the Balawadi very close to the place where the garbage has been dumped, why the Panchayat authorities are so callous as not to clear the garbage and provide a cleaner environment to the children and villagers. The fish market in the proximity of the garbage dump has become quite unhygienic as flies that feast on the garbage also have a taste of raw fish thus passing on the bacteria and virus from the garbage to the fish which in turn is consumed by humans.
When this reporters contacted the President of the Belle Grama Panchayat about the un-cleared garbage, she expressed her helplessness saying that she has asked the workers to clear the garbage some days back. However, the workers are yet to respond. It is said that the workers do not know where to dump the garbage once it is cleared from the Santhekatte. It seems that there is lack of seriousness about the civic problems. No one knows where to dump the garbage.
