Mangalore, 26 Jun 2012: Holy hill attack on 24 June 2012 came as a big shock for the people of Mangalore.
While speaking to the locals over there, they said since 14 years they come there daily to attend evening prayers 6-7pm, but this was the first time they have experienced such an incident which shocked them very much.
Below the Holy cross, the Kerosene Lamp was never blown off since 14 years. Day and night the lamp used to burn. But these miscreants destroyed that too. They have destroyed the electricity supply unit as well as many flower pots.
Mr. Yogesh Bhut, Mr. Janardhan Poojary and Mayor Gulzar Banu visited the site and said they will work hard to find the culprits and required action will be taken against them. They also said that a solid solution has to be found to maintain harmony among all community.
Mr. Melwin D’Souza who is in-charge of closing the gate after night prayers is in shock to get the news and says ‘Let our Lord forgive the people involved in the attach and let those people come forward and ask for forgiveness.’
Mr. Jossy D’Souza who is in-charge of opening the gate every morning is so surprised to see the damage around. He said it never happened in past 14 years and it should not happen in future. The devotees are very much hurt from this issue. Not only Christian community comes there to pray but also all community people come and offer their prayers and they strongly believe that the prayers offered at Holy Hill will never go unanswered.
Every September 14th Holy Hill celebrates its Annual Day. Thousands of people come and get the blessings and enjoy the festival atmosphere over there. Every year the Holy Hill receives highest number of devotees from Kerala.
Some of the devotees who were present today said that they could not believe that such a thing could happen to the Holy Hill Cross and said that they hope and pray that such things would not happen again.
