Dharmasthala: Jackfruit festival attracts huge gathering

Belthangady, 18 Jun 2012: Jackfruits were the talk of the town in  Dharmasthala on Sunday. The jackfruit aroma pervaded all over-thanks to the second state level  jackfruit festival  organized at the Amrithavarshini Auditorium here.

 

Jackfruit growers from various parts of the state had arrived in Dharmasthala with different varieties of jackfruit. Not just that, there were also  different  eatables prepared out of jackfruit. As many as 35 varieties of jackfruits were on display and visitors relished jackfruits of all varieties to their fullest.

 

 

There were Chandra halasu, Shivaratri Halasu, Ekadashi Chandra Halasu, Karadi Halasu, Nambi Halasu, Barke, Unde Halasu—the list was long. A variety of food items prepared out of jackfruit namely juice, jam, cake, payasam, dosa, pickle, etc kept the taste buds of the visitors tingling.

 

Jackfruit plants were also available for those interested in planting the sapling. Informative programmes, seminars etc were organized in the presence of experts.
