Moodubelle, 15 May 2010: Many of the land-line telephone users in Moodubelle have been put to great inconvenience as their telephones have been ‘dead’ since quite a long time and in spite of repeated complaints to the telephone exchange at Moodubelle, there is no response and the telephone users do not know whom they can approach to redress their grievances.
This has been a common knowledge that once the telephone stops working for one reason or the other, the consumers may have to wait for days together before it is rectified. While the Karkala-Udupi Road was being widened the telephone cables were uprooted and snapped at many places which did take quite a long time for rectification. Even at normal times whenever the telephones stop working the staff at the Moodubelle telephone exchange is slow to respond.
The thunderstorm and lightening on 25th April 2010 had resulted in the damage of telephone cables in a number of places. However, in certain places the telephones are still ‘silent’ as the damaged cables are not yet rectified. The telephone of this reporter has been ‘dead’ since 25th April 2010 and in spite of repeated appeals to the concerned persons at the telephone exchange no action has been taken so far. This is the fate of other telephone users in the area. It has been reported that being fed-up with the poor service by the telephone exchange at Moodubelle, a number of people have surrendered their land-line telephones and switched over to cell-phones.
In the last week this reporter visited the Moodubelle telephone exchange to personally bring to the notice of the authorities about the problems faced by him and others in the area. However, he found that all the three doors of the telephone exchange building were closed and there was no response from any one when called out. The entire exchange building presented a look as if it has been deserted and unattended. As the reporter came out, he saw the BSNL sign board in a precarious slanting position symbolising the state of affairs in the telephone exchange in Moodubelle.
