Udupi, 01 April 2012: City Municipal Council President Kiran Kumar presented the budget on Saturday for the year 2012 – 12 with a surplus of rupees 18 lakhs. In this budget he has expected rupees 136.67 crores revenue and has announced expenditure proposals.
Elevating the city’s main bus stops to Hi-tech standard, taking over the old Deputy Commissioner’s Office into Municipal Council, people’s representative receiving petitions from people in every ward of the Municipality, construction of skating track with a cost of rupees 21 lakhs in Bhujanga Park, construction of sports stadium and stage in Beedinagudde, fully computerization of Municipal Office are some of the main announcements made in the budget.
The revenue will be as follows:
The surplus of rupees 27.53 crores from previous budget, rupees 18 crores from central/state finance commission, rupees 2.43 crores from staff salary grant, rupees 3 crores from the electricity bill adjustment, rupees 5 crores from Chief Minister’s small and medium city development grant are expected.
Besides rupees 30 lakhs under swarna jayanthi shahari rozgar project, rupees 5 lakhs from MLA/MP’s fund, rupees 10 lakhs from natural disaster fund, rupees 25 lakhs from tax are expected. From the main income of the Municipal Council the property tax rupees 5 crore income is expected.

As said in the budget rupees 7.80 crore will be required for maintenance of the office / administration. Rupees 12 crores for the repair and maintenance of road/drain/footpaths. Rupees 70 lakhs for the repair and maintenance of street lights and rupees 1 crore for the installation of the new street lights. Rupees 1 crore for the water supply arrangement has been reserved.
Rupees 2 crores for the garbage clearance and for disposal rupees 1.50 crores, rupees 35 lakhs for the maintenance of inner drainage, rupees 63 crores for the expansion, rupees 10 lakhs for the repair and maintenance of municipal buildings and rupees 20 lakhs for the maintenance of parks are reserved.
Rupees 57 lakhs for the welfare of poor, rupees 24 lakhs for the welfare of physically challenged, rupees 30 lakhs for the self employment/training of backward communities, rupees 25 lakhs from municipal fund and rupees 1.57 crores from state government fund for various projects are announced.
