Mumbai, 11 March 2012: St. Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association Mira road, organised the inauguration of Vovyo Verse ani Vojem Vorchem programme -A Free Service to the Mangalorean Konkani Speaking people at their Weddings and other ceremonies on Sunday,11th march 2012. Fr. Dominic Vas, Parish Priest and Spiritual director of the Association, inaugurated invoking God’s blessings and offered this service to the people.
Association members came in a procession along with the traditional Vojem (Kuvallo, Ghadai, Kanti with vegetables, Gumta, Kombo, Naarl, and Dukor) a scene which reminded the original Ross ceremony in Mangalore. A group of ladies recited the Vovyos beautifully with crowd upport.
"Vovyo Verse ani Vojem Vorchem, a beautiful Mangalorean culture has to be nurtured by us and always kept it alive along with our Mother Tongue" - said Fr. Dominic. He praised the efforts taken by the Association members in gathering old traditional things used by our forefathers which are a treasure of our Mangalorean culture. He further requested people to make a proper use of this free service to up lift our tradition.
A large crowd was gathered at the programme and amazed to see the old articles displayed and a colourful procession of Vojem. A large Mangalorean traditional articles were put for exhibition like-Kurponn, Mand, Kanye, Doy, Kundli, Modki, Sher, Bhati, Kail, Adallo, Kailato, Shinke, Chimny, Koiti, and many more.
