Mangalore, 07 March 2012: The choosing of Mayor for the Mangalore Municipal Corporation took dramatic turn on Wednesday and surprisingly the administrating BJP lost their representation on their own, which then gone to the opposition Congress candidate.
What actually happened is this……. BJP which was holding the administration had submitted Roopa Bangera as its candidate for the position of Mayor. But along with the nomination they had not submitted the certificate to prove her caste for the candidature. But Wednesday being the last day, BJP candidate was given 10 minutes time to properly submit the nomination.
But this action was opposed by the Congress Party Corporators for technical reason. On this occasion, since BJP also failed to submit an alternative candidate, Congress candidate for Mayor, the Corporator of Katipalla, Gulzar Bhanu was chosen unanimously. Gulzar Bhanu has become the 26th Mayor of Mangalore Municipal Corporation.
Here in BJP camp they had finalized the alternative candidate and only the announcement was pending. But as the sudden unexpected problem took place they failed to respond in time, so BJP lost the Mayor’s position to the opposition camp and became frustrated.
