Guna (MP), 22 Feb 2012: A newborn girl had a miraculous escape when she was dragged by a swine outside a government hospital at Kumbhraj tehsil in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district, sources said today.
A labourer’s wife delivered outside the hospital yesterday. However soon after she gave birth to the baby girl, a loitering pig pulled the neonate by her feet before it was chased away by the people out there, they said.
The baby girl was then referred to Guna district hospital where her condition is reported to be stable.
The woman, identified as Shakkaria Bai, was shifted to Kumbhraj hospital on a tractor by her husband Malkhan after ambulance operating under the state government’s ’Janani Suraksha Yojana’ allegedly failed to turn up.
According to Malkhan, who hails from Eitkhedi village, he twice called up the district headquarters for sending ambulance as soon as his wife went into labour the charge denied by the authorities.
The personnel manning the call centre for sending ambulances claimed that ambulances were not available when Malkhan called up.
They also claimed that Malkhan himself refused when there was a delay in sending ambulances and told them that he was shifting his wife on a tractor.
