Dubai: Nafis Cricketers Win Pamboor Sevens Cricket Trophy

Dubai, 12 Febraury 2012: Pamboor Welfare Association under the leadership of Veronica Alva organized maiden seven a side cricket tournament on Friday,10th Febraury at Zabeel Park Cricket Grounds.

 

Nafis Cricketers won the inaugural Pamboor 7s cricket tournament held at Zabeel Park Cricket Grounds on Friday, 10th February defeating Royal Shiroor in the finals.  26 cricket teams participated in 7 a side, 5 overs cricket tournament for the prestigious ‘Winnys Pamboor Sevens Trophy’. With immaculate planning and seamless execution, the tournament was a huge success and enthralled the cricketers and cricket enthusiasts.  Record 25 matches in total were played in a day which started at 7 am.

 

President of Pamboorians UAE, Veronica Alva welcomed the gathering during the inauguration ceremony at the grounds and released colorful balloons as a part of inauguration.  Owner of Winnys Restaurant, strong supporter of Pamboor Welfare Assosiation and main sponsor of the event, Santan Alva officially inaugurated the tournament by hitting a delivery from Tournament Director Denzil Fernandes through mid-on.

 

In the first match of the day Weekend warriors defeated Sakath Tottam.  10 exiting matches were held in the knockout stages.  Quarter final stages started at 12:30 pm.

 

In the first semi final Nafis Cricketers defeated Mogaveers CC and Royal Shiroor defeated Coastal Challengers to enter the finals.  In the finals Nafis Cricketers defeated Royal Shiroor by 21 runs to by win the trophy.  Nafis Scored 39 runs in their allotted overs and Royal Shiroor were restricted to 18 runs only.  Shabbir of Nafis Cricketers was declared as the best batsman and best player and Farhan of Royal Shiroor was adjudged as the best bowler of the finals.

Wilfred of Royal Shiroor hammered the only 50 of the tournament and remained unbeaten on 55 against Globe Link West Star Shipping in their league match.

 

During the IPL-like prize distribution ceremony, trophies were distributed to the winners and individual players.  Main Sponsor of the event, Owner of Winnys Restaurant Mr Santan Alva, Co-Spnsors: Representative of Globe Link West Star Shipping LLC, Ms Vanita Menezes, Representative from Johnason Arabia LLC, Mr Sadanand Rao, Support sponsors: Managing Director of Merit Freight Systems LLC Mr. Joseph Mathias, President of Pamboorians, Ms Veronica Alva, Secretary, Mr Lester Alva were present on the dias and distributed the trophies.

 

President Ms Veronica Alva honoured Main sponor, Co-sponsors, Support sponsors, Media sponors, Tournament Director and his team with momento and bouquet of flowers.

 

Mc’s for the whole event were Agnel Prakash D’Souza and Ashok Menezes. Kudos to Pamboorians UAE for professionally organizing an event of such magnitude.
