Manipal, 09 Febraury 2012: The best of India’s education sector were honored at the India Today Aspire Education Summit 2012 in New Delhi recently and Manipal University was awarded for having the best hostel facility for students in the country along with BITS Pilani. Col MGHS Rajan, Chief Warden received the award on behalf of Manipal University.
The parameters taken into account for giving the award included the air conditioned and non-air conditioned accommodations for boys and girls and the furnishing within.
The hostels are equipped with solar heating system, water cooler, internet, common telephone, common TV room, common reading room etc. Students can take an independent telephone connection on additional payment. Night canteens, a central store, STD booths and a hostel library make the campus self sufficient in all respects. Every hostel block is provided with cable TV facilities, gymnasium and facilities for indoor games and ATMs too.
The hostels are managed by a Management Committee of which Mrs Vasanthi R Pai is the chairperson. The day-to- day management is looked after by a full time Chief Warden assisted by Separate Hostel Wardens from the teaching faculty. There is an efficient redressal system in place to attend to any suggestions or complaints from the students. The director Student Affairs and a Student counselor are also available.
There are two food courts to catering different kinds of food throughout the week. Both are centrally air-conditioned. A variety of cuisine is also available at the food court.
