Mangalore, 03 october 2011: Anutthama A and Manasa Karanth have won the titles in the Karnataka State Under 10 Boys and Girls Chess Championship respectively with full 5 points in as many rounds.
In boys category, Anutthama defeated Harroop Singh Goindi in the final round to win the honour. Harroop Singh was placed runner up with 4 points with his better tie break points over Pranav Hegde, Sanjay D Kulal and Ramik Kumar who were placed 3rd to 5th respectively in the order with 4 points.

In girls category, Manasa Karanth well dominated the field except for few anxious moments against Ishani Rai in the final round. However, experience in the stretched middle game came in handy for Manasa, as she ruled the board with her aggressive pieces to clinch the victory. Poorvi Adappa scored 4 points to secure runner up. Ishani Rai and Anshula Aithal were placed 3rd and 4th respectively with 3 points each to their credit. Shivani C H won 5th place with 2.5 points.
Top two players in each category are selected to represent Karnataka in the CAI’s National Under 10 Championship.
The event was organized at Derik’s Chess School, by King’s Academy, Mangalore on behalf of Karnataka State Chess Association (Affiliate of Chess Association of India). King’s Academy will conduct selection trials for Under 14 Boys and Girls on 3rd and 4th October at Derik’s Chess School, Mangalore.
