Mumbai: Konkan Taram- Jerimeri celebrates 20th Anniversary

Mumbai, 20 September 2011: “Konkan Taram” Association of St. Jude Church –Jerimeri celebrated their 20th Anniversary on Sunday the 11th September 2011 at 7.00 p.m. at Mumbai, St. Jude School Hall.  On this occasion they combined the celebration of Monti Fest and also inaugurated the Title of their New Devotional CD called “TARAM GITAM” which will soon be released in Mumbai.

 

The Konkani Association has been taking active part in all Social, Cultural and Liturgical activities of St. Jude parish since last 20 years.  The organizers of Konkani Choir group, under the leadership of Fr. Paul Rego, Norbert Sequeira, John Mascarenhas, Wilson Pinto and several others formed the association in the name of “KONKAN DIVO” which subsequently named as “KONKAN TARAM” in the year 1991, on 1st September.

 

In order to help the poor, Sick and Needy, with other social activities the association has organized several Konkani shows to promote Konkani language in the parish. Major shows organized by Konkan Taram are like “Chintnen Sobdan Kornen” – Konkani Play written by Mic Max and directed by John Mascarenhas,  “Baila Show of Eric Ozario”  “Henry Nite”, “Melwyn Nite”,  “Antu Khuris Ailo” & “Ghott Dhor Soddinaka” written and directed by Sunny A. D’Souza, “Khunigar Novro”, and “Soirikek addkoll” -  written and directed by John Mascarenhas,  “Vovvu Lavvu” of Vijay Kumar Shetty,  Christmas Carols and Easter Messages in All India Radio, Monti Fest Message in Lemon TV and several other shows for the growth and benefit of the association.  Also social activities like ‘Sunny Nidhi’,  ‘Shraddanjali”,  workshops and training programmes for youth, children, elders and women have been conducted.

 

Konkan Taram has also honoured several eminent personalities and also awarded with it’s ‘Kalaratna Awards’ to Dr. Charles Vaz SVD, Dr. Francis Barboza, Sunny A. D’Souza, Henry D’Souza, Lawrence Saldanha, Jerome D’Souza, William Machado and several others.

 

 

During the celebration the Chief Guest Shri Thomas Sequeira - Abu Dhabi (Representative of “Kutam’ weekly and ‘Mangalorean.com’ ) and Guest of Honour Fr. Nelson Saldanha (Parish Priest – St. Jude Parish) were felicitated with a traditional shawl, fruits and ‘Man Pathr’.  Chief Guest inaugurated the TITLE OF NEW CD - “TARAM GITAM” of Devotional Hymns composed by John Mascarenhas, (for which singers like Nephie, John , Franky, Sunita, Dr. Prashant, Anthony Tauro and several others with Konkan Taram members will sing and Musician Benjamin Miranda will co-ordinate with film playback musicians.) Lawrence D’Souza, Walter D’Souza, George Furtado, John Mascarenhas, Sister Anita and  Flora D’Souza were on the dias.

 

George Furtado and Flora D’Souza welcomed the guests.  Kenet Barnes, John Veigas, Jacintha D’Souza,  Joseph D’Souza and other committee members introduced the guests with flower bouquets. John Mascarenhas and Clement Lobo compered the programme.

 

Beautiful cultural programme was arranged by parish children.  Fiola, Glensita, Valencia, Bonny, Jackson, Rickson, Remita, Rechell, Alita, Magnus, Alisha and Konkan Taram members entertained the audience with singing, dance and variety entertainments.  Fr. Nelson Saldanha, Fr. Faustine Furtado, Fr. Prakash Tuskano & Fr. Stephen Maria were present for Holy Mass.  Parish children like Remita, Noel, Christon, Glensita, Nikita, Roydon and others. Programme  was followed by Dinner (Novem ) for parishioners and guests.
