Udupi, 17 March 2010: The International Women’s Day was celebrated at the Rajangana of the Udupi Shri Krishna Mutt on Friday, 12th March 2010 at 9.30 am. This programme was organised jointly by the Women and Children Welfare Department of the udupi Zilla Panchayat and other women’s organisations of the Udupi Taluk including Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project and Navodaya Village Development Trust.
The programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Gladys D’Almeida, President of the udupi Zilla Panchayat. Other dignitaries present at this occasion included Mrs. Sarala Kanchan-President of Udupi Zilla Mahila mandal, Mrs. Sumana M., Assistant Director of Women and Children Welfare Department, Mr. Sadananda, Child Welfare Officer, Mr. Manjunatha, Mrs. Sheela K. Shetty, Mr. Rajashri Nayak, Mrs. Ashaji, Mrs. Radha Das and Mrs. Vasanthi Rao Koradkal.
A number of competitions were organised for various groups of representatives that were participating in the programme. The members of the Jyothi Mahila Mandala of Edmeru also participated in the programme and competitions. The President of the Jyothi Mahila Mandala, Mrs. Helen D’Souza secured two first prizes in the games competition. The Pratibha Puraskar was also given during this occasion.
In her message, Mrs. Sarala Kanchan explained to the over 500 participants in the programme the importance of the International Women’s Day and said that the women should become bold and should actively participate in various programmes and camps that are being specially organised to train the women in various activities.
