Udupi: Vishwa Konkani Kalaratn Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Maandd Sobhaann, Mangalore along with his team of singers and musicians presented 63rd spiritually enriching “Bhakthi Sobhann” at the Kayyar Art Nest, Pilar Shirva on Saturday, 12 April 2025 from 06.30 pm to 9.00pm.
The “Bhakti Sobhann” presentation was comprised of 12 songs whose lyrics were written by eminent poets-Rev. Dr. Pratap Naik S.J. and Melwyn Rodrigues. The lyrics were set to music by Eric Ozario and sung by the team of singers comprised of Eric Ozario, his wife Mrs. Joyce Ozario and others including Prakash D’Souza, Raina Sequeira, Dealle D’Souza, Cliyon D’Silva and Prithuma Monteiro.
The music was provided by veteran musicians including: Alron Rodrigues-Keyboard, Russel Rodrigues-Keyboard, Sunil Kumar-Violin, Umesh Iddya-Saxaphone, Damodar Kumthale-Tabla and Norbert Gonslves-Percussion. Most of these musical instruments being traditional, an authentic background music enhanced the presentation of “Bhakti Sobhann”.
One of the highlights of the “Bhakti Sobhann” presentation was the anchoring of the programme by Fr. Alwyn Serrao, an eminent playwright in Konkani. For each of the 12 songs, Fr. Alwyn Serrao provided appropriate background with the narration of anecdotes from day to day life, news, human sufferings due to conflicts, wars and disasters as well as assault on all types of freedom all over the world. He quoted from the writings of his favourite author Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931), a Lebanese-American writer, poet and visual artist. He was also considered a philosopher, although he himself rejected the title. He is best known as the author of “The Prophet”, which was first published in the United States in 1923 and has since become one of the best-selling books of all time, having been translated into more than 100 languages. Fr. Alwyn also quoted passages from the Gospels.
In the middle of the programme, Fr. John Barboza-Parish priest of Infant Jesus Church, Pilar honoured Eric Ozario for completing 75 years of his life and both Eric Ozario and his wife Mrs. Joyce Ozario on completing 50 Years of their fruitful married life. Wilson D’Souza, Kayyar, the eminent painter and artist presented the portrait of the couple that was painted by himself.
Wilson D’Souza Kayyar presented mementos in the form of his own paintings to the team of the singers, musicians and all those who supported and worked behind the presentation.
The famous paintings depicting the women playing different musical instruments painted by Wilson D’Souza Kayyar formed the backdrop of the stage.
The “Bhakthi Sobhann” programme was attended by Fr. Frederick D’Souza-Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier Church, Mudarangadi, Fr. John Barboza-Parish Priest of Pilar, Fr. Jerome Monteiro-Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Pernal, Fr. Pascal Menzes-Assistant Parish Priest of Pernal, Harriet Silva Vidyasagar, Arnold D’Souza, Mrs. Dorothy Fernandes, Roshan Belman, Mrs. Neeta rebello, Alwyn Danti and others.
Fr. Frederick D’Souza and other participants expressed their appreciation of the entire programme.
Prakash Noronha of Parichaya Pamboor compered the stage programme.
