Mangalore: Mittakonn, a project of Mandd Sobhann aimed at enhancing and expanding Konkani Literature , was inaugurated on 23 February 2025 at Kalaangann. Renowned children’s literary writer J. F. Dsouza gave his message after inaugurating the program by adding salt to Buttermilk and stirring it.
In his introductory speech, Mittakonn Co-ordinator Rony Crasta Kelarai reminisced that Mandd Sobhann initially started Mittakonn in 1998, undertaking several Poetry recitations, Book Publishing, and Literary Discussions. Although the initiative concluded due to unavoidable circumstances, it has now been revived. The focus for this year is on children’s literature, including plans to translate or adapt children’s literature from other languages, organize 2-3 poetry festivals featuring new poems, and host a Children’s Literature Festival in November.
Renowned linguist Rev. Dr. Pratap Naik S. J. guided the gathering, emphasizing the importance of understanding children and creating literature from their perspective. He proposed 12 rules to achieve this and highlighted the need to explore other mediums like cartoons, audio books, and videos to attract children to literature.
In the subsequent symposium, Eric Ozario, Naveen Kulshekar, Ajay Dsouza, Hemacharya, Lilly Miranda, Charlie Kulshekar, Salomi Miyapadav, and Mundrel Cyril shared their opinions.
Mandd Sobhann President Louis Pinto welcomed the guests with a bouquet, and Arunraj Rodrigues compered the event.
