Udupi: The Annual General Body Meeting of the Alumni Association of Milagres College, Kallianpur, was held on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The event commenced with prayer hymns led by Jovita Fernandes and Lavina D’Sa, setting a serene tone for the proceedings.
The association’s President, Mr. Shekhar Gujjarbettu, delivered the welcome address. This was followed by the crispy annual report presented by General Secretary Prof. Sophia Dias and the annual audited accounts shared by Treasurer Mrs. Amrita Lewis.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the felicitation of retired faculty members, including Prof. Annamma, the former Head of the Economics Department, Mr. Dinakar Poojary, Laboratory in-charge, and Mr. Pius Frank, a dedicated office staff member. The honourees were presented with traditional shawls, bouquets, and mementos. Prof. Chaitra introduced the awardees, eloquently recalling their lifelong contributions to Milagres College.
In her response, Prof. Annamma expressed deep gratitude, stating that recognition such as this is a reminder that “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.”
The election process, efficiently conducted by Dr. Jayaram Shettigar, resulted in the unanimous re-election of the current executive committee. President Mr. Shekhar Gujjarbettu, now serving a record fifth term, humbly reflected on the trust bestowed upon him, quoting, ‘Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.’ He recalled the invaluable encouragement of the late Very Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca and pledged to continue working for the association with unwavering dedication.
Principal Dr. Vincent Alva lauded the Alumni Association for its steadfast support and contributions to the college. Reflecting on the recent A+ grade reaccreditation by NAAC, he remarked, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” He congratulated the Mr Shekar Gujjarbettu and his team, all the very best, their role and involvement is significant, as the College is passing through a challenging phase in its 57 years journey.
Former President of the Alumnae Association Mr Allan Lewis shared his insightful opinions and concerns on this occasion and reassured old students’ support and cooperation best way possible.
The meeting concluded on a high note with Vice President Mrs. Joyce Lewis proposing a vote of thanks, eloquently expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the day’s success. The seamless flow of events was coordinated by Mrs. Chandrika, while Ms. Pratima, both serving as Lecturers in the Dept of English, captured the day’s essence through her photography.
As the meeting drew to a close, the spirit of the alumni and their love for their alma mater shone brightly, living proof of the saying, ‘Alumni are the true legacy of any institution, and their bond with their roots is eternal.’
The gathering was a beautiful blend of reminiscence, gratitude, and hope for the future, promising another chapter of meaningful contributions to Milagres College.
