Udupi/Barkur: Lions Club, Barkur organized Free Medical Check-up Camp on 29th October, 2024.The purpose of the camp was to provide free medical services, including blood pressure and diabetes screening, to promote health awareness among the community.
Blood pressure screening, Blood sugar testing for diabetes, General health consultation awareness and Health education on lifestyle modifications also shared during Camp.
Over 100 people attended the camp, including men, women, and senior citizens in which Doctors, nurses, and volunteers from local hospitals and clinics participated actively.
In the beginning a short stage programme was held where in Mrs Yashasvini, ‘Community Health Officer’, Hanehalli Barkur, gave Lifestyle advice to those at risk of hypertension. Severe cases were referred for further medical follow-up. Leaflets and Educational material on managing diabetes through diet and exercise was distributed. President of Lions Club Barkur Mr Shrinivasa Shetty, Secretary of The Barkur Educational Society Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty, Admn Coordinator of National Educational Institutions Mr Archibald Furtado, Mrs Jyothi Shetty Treasurer of the National Old Students Association, Mr Sadashiva Shetty, all School and NJC Staff and Lions Members were present on this occasion.
The camp created significant health awareness, especially among individuals and parents unaware of their conditions. Many participants appreciated the free screening and counselling, enabling early detection and prevention strategies.
The Lion’s Club medical check-up camp was a great success, meeting the objective of spreading health awareness and providing necessary screenings to the public. The club aims to organize more such events in the future to benefit the community further.
