Udupi/Barkur: ‘Barkur has remained as a favourite destination for Hobali, Taluk and Dist Level Games Tournament over the years…..’ Mr B Seetharama Shetty, the Retired principal of National PU College revealed in his inaugural address to the young teenagers who arrived to Barkur to participate in the Tennis Volley Ball Games – Singles and Doubles and various Skip rope events. He lighted the traditional lamp to herald the beginning of the event along with dignitaries on the dais.
On 1st October, 2024, the National Auditorium was full to its capacity as the athletes and team managers were present to witness the opening ceremony, which was given a start by students with Prayer hymn followed by a formal but cordial welcome address by the Principal NPU – Prof U Kottraswamy and floral reception and recognition by Physical Director of NPU, versatile and experienced Mr Umesh Shetty, the master mind all the arrangements with his team of co workers.
Treasurer of Barkur Educational Society, BES Mr Krishna Hebbar conveyed his best wisher to all participants in the Tournament.
On this occasion, the sponsors of the Trophies and Shields, the Rotary Barkur and its dynamic President Mr Ganesh Shetty was honoured with a memento by the Principal.
Mr B Shantharama Shetty the President of BES in his presidential address, expressed his happiness to see and receive sports persons in large number accompanied by their coaches and trainers in Barkur a historical and holy place and the National Grounds a witness of achievements and records over the last 80 long years, in various track, field and games in the Udupi and then DK District. He advised all to adhere and abide rules and regulations, discipline of the game with sportive spirit and follow the instructions of the tournament referees and teachers.
Among others, Correspondent of the National PUC Mr Gopal Naik, Admn Coordinator of National Group of Educational Institutions Mr P. Archibald Furtado, President of Rotary Club Barkur Mr Ganesh Shetty were present on the dais.
To conclude the colourful programme, Mrs Usha Kiran Shetty, Lecturer in Mathematics proposed vote of thanks while Mrs Jyothy meticulously anchored the short stage program.
