Udupi, 02 Sept: To encourage leadership qualities, drive away stage fear and develop communication skills, the Catholic Sabha conducts annual Elocution Competitions at three levels – Parish, Varado and Diocese.
On Sunday, 1st September, 2024 at 2.30 pm, Catholic Sabha Mount Rosary Parish organised parish level competitions in Konkani and Kannada streams in 4 and 3 age and class groups / categories respectively. The enthusiastic participants above 25 gathered to exhibit their prowess in public speaking that were well trained by parents, elders and teachers was witnessed during the course of closely contested event.
‘One of the visible qualities of a good leader is good communication skill and effective public speaking’ in charge of the event and President Designate of the Catholic Sabha Mr P. Archibald Furtado informed while welcoming the participants and panel of judges – Mrs Pushpa Dias –Sastan a professional teacher serving in Govt Primary School Brahmmavar, Dr Melita Alva, Sastan, serving in the Yenapoya University as professor and Mr Reginald Lewis the incumbent President of Catholic Sabha, Milagres Cathedral.
During the prize distribution the Parish Priest of Mount Roasry Church, Rev Dr Roque DSouza, expressed his happiness to see good number of children this year compared to previous years and congratulated all the participants for their enthusiasm and parents and elders for their encouragement and moral support. ‘Everybody cannot be good speakers, some have the talent which has to be noticed and nurtured and Catholic Sabha is doing a yeomen service under its dynamic President Mr Elias DSouza and team’. All the learned judges were thanked and felicitated with roses for their valuable time and patience.
All the participants were encouraged with gifts and Ice Cream and the Winners with cash prizes and Certificates. Though it was a close fight for the title, winners of coveted I & II places will represent the parish in the Second round at the Kallianpur Deanery level on 13th October, 2024.
Convenor of the competitions, Mr Furtado proposed vote of thanks on behalf of President and Office bearers of CS for all, making the event a great success with active participation and support and wished the winners all the very best in the next level at Deanery / Diocesan level.
