Mangalore, 01 Sept 2011: 22nd state level inter-dojo karate championship-2011 was held on 27 and 28th of August at Vidya Kalyana Mantapa, Vidyadayini High Scholl, Surathkal.
The Institute of Karate and Allied Arts, Mangalore has been one of the esteemed martial arts institute in Karnataka. It has more than 125 branches in Udupi, Mangalore, Kodagu, Bangalore, Kasaragod and Karkala. IKAA was started by Mr. Praveen Kumar in 1989. Now it has become vast martial arts organization with thousands of young people learning the art of self defense. It has produced more than 500 Black Belt students and its members have bagged numerous medals in Regional, State, National and International Karate Championships.
More than 700 karatekas took part in the 22nd State Level Inter Dojo Karate Championship of IKAA.The Overall Championship went to the Bangalore who retained the title. Second place was bagged by Bhuvanendra Residential School, Shirthady, Moodbidri. Third place went to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan dojo, Mangalore. The Male Grand Champion Title was bagged by Sharath Kumar of Paniyoor Dojo whereas the Female Grand Champion went to Priya Kulal of Mangalore.
The tournament was inaugurated by Sri H Giridhar Hatwar, Secretary, Hindu Vidyadayini Sangha, Suratkal. Kyoshi Praveen Kumar, presided over the function. Shihan Anand Devadiga, Shihan Balakrishna Alva, Shihan Suresh M , Shihan Vinod Ullal, Shihan Dinesh Achar & Sensei Mangaldas were present on the occasion.On 28th evening, in the closing ceremony, Sri Vasudeva Acharya, Sri Agari Raghavendra Rao, Sri B A Moideen Bava, Sri Ramanath Rai, Sri J.D. Veerappa were present as chief guests.
