MAHE has planned to encourage liberal arts and social sciences in a significant way and the process

Manipal, 28 May 2024: MAHE Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Madhu Veeraraghavan has said that Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has planned to encourage liberal arts and social sciences in a significant way and the process has begun. “Research needs to define every discipline so also in liberal arts and social sciences,” he observed.

 

Inaugurating Sarvodaya, the Annual Day and Conference of the Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS), MAHE, Dr Madhu Veeraraghavan lauded the efforts of GCPAS in cultivating an aesthetic and intellectual culture through academics. “Research across disciplines can make our debates more meaningful”, he felt.

 

 

The GCPAS Head Prof. Varadesh Hiregange maintained that GCPAS offers courses in ecosophy, aesthetics, peace studies and art media, which form a fine blend of liberal arts and social sciences. “Sarvodaya is our philosophical bedrock which means well-being of everyone”, he added.

 

Concluding two-month Bharathanatya classes, dance-artist Dr Bhramari Shivaprakash said certain ‘discipline’ in learning, can lead to better aesthetic experience as well.

 

Concluding two-month music classes, music-artist Shravya Baasri felt that teaching music for different age groups was a refreshing experience. Both dance and music classes were offered by GCPAS for public, who expressed immense happiness over their experience. Their performances were also well received by the audiences.

 

The students- Velika, Shravan, Chinmayee, Satvik, Aakarshika and Alice presented their research on films, theatre, literature, politics etc., Gauthami Kakathkar moderated the programme. Head of Geopolitics Dr Vijayalaxmi, Dr Sudheer Reddy, Dr Ravindranathan, Dr Resmi Bhaskaran and a large number of music and dance participants were present.
